Collision
They will be able to identify how temp. affects reaction rates using the collision model.
Before we start you should know what a moulecule is and what a reaction rate is? Note: these are just sites to help there are many others.
Scientist use the collision model to see how much force a reaction needs to take place. You should also know that collision model is not just about the reaction that takes place when molecules collide but also when they seperate through collision.
What you need
- People
- Tape
make several tape balls and stick some to a wall. also make a tape box or circle on wall
next throw the other tape balls at the wall and the ones stuck to it at different speeds.
check outcome then repeat only throw them faster or slower. also make the circle or box bigger or smaller.
What do enzymes do
A: speed up molecules (no because the don not affect the speed of molecules)
B: Causes the molecular orientation (yes because without them then reactions would happen all the time)
C: Cause molecules to stick together (enzymes do not affect molecular bonds)
What is the collision model used for
A: Show how molecules seperate only (molecules do not just seperate)
B: Show how much force is needed for a molecule to get over its activation energy (yes scientist need to know this in order to try to recreate reactions)
C: To show how many times molecules collide with each other (Scientist don't use the collision model for this)
Which something that does not happen in a collision model
A: Collisions (molecules do collide)
B: Seperations (molecules break apart)
C: Molecules stopping (if this happen then there is no energy to take place)
How does heat affect the collision model
A: Raises the mlecules speed (the more heat rhe faster they move)
B: Slows the molecules down (heat does not slow molecules down)
C: Helps the molecular orientation (heat does not help allign molecules)
D: Helps molecules to explode (when molecules react they explode)
